Fear towards the death

Thinking about the meaning of a human being through our discussion about a robot after the monster, it reminds me of the similarity as a fear towards death. A human being has the emotion, which is often discussed when we talk about the distinguishment between human being and robot / monster. The emotion like love can be demonstrated or expressed by the technology and artificial brains. For instance, the Terminator 2 describes that John Connor teaches Terminator why he cries and miss him. The emotion gives several physiological effects such as blood pressure, body reflections, etc., and it is possible for robots to analyze the human beings’ emotions.
However, the fear towards death cannot be copied by robots and monster. There is no concept of the death in their world. Because they are not born but created, and they do not have anythings to lose like family or other significant things. There is a words from the Fullmetal Alchemist; in the story, because it is common to use the automail arms and legs. It is not the same as robots because the users still keep their heart, but the characters tend not to worry about losing their body by wars and fights by saying “we have the automail instead.” Technology keep us far from the death, but the fear towards death is necessary in a way to understand the value of a life. Human being is human because they are scared by the death and know the value of a life.

  1. I like your creative point that digged deeply about why humans are willing to make robots. You analyzed the whole issue more from emotional perspective. Because of fear of death, human beings have to make robots and body parts. The analysis exempts human from negative purpose of using robots. For example, they probably do it for wealth or for power. Your description really impressed me that you put human in a vulnerable situation. This helps me to learn the topic of “human vs. robots” from a new and impressive view.
For me, I chose to explain the whole thing by depicting human as “creature with desire”, I thought the creation like robots are all about endless desire, which is bad. But your opinion really provided me with a bright new cognition regarding this problem.
