The Monster As A She

I didn't mention this in my monster paper because I didn't see the significance in it but after reading the seven theses I noticed the trend. This monster, the Ahp, is know in many cultures in South East Asia. All the countries that tell of this monster says it is a girl. They say that the Ahp is a girl and usually really pretty with long hair.

In a section of Thesis V it talked about who the monster is a transformation of. It says, "Given that the recorders of the history of the West have been mainly European and male, women (She) and nonwhites (Them!) have found themselves repeatedly transformed into monsters, whether to validate specific alignments of masculinity and whiteness, or simply to be pushed from its realm of thought." It is a trend to see people who are on the "lower end" of the social, racial, and sexual hierarchy being portrayed as monstrous.

The Ahp is not the only "she" monster I've heard about in my culture. All the scariest ghost and spirit in my culture are female as well. The most feared and well known one is when a pregnant female spirit. I've noticed that all these scary and evil monsters are female but I've never put thought into why that is until I read about it in this thesis. It also got me noticing how monsters that male are almost always portrayed as big and strong.
