Greedy Monsters

A movie that exemplifies how a monster could be anyone and that monsters could be a creation on the basis of greed, is the move The Purge. This movie is about how in a new, “better” America, citizens are allowed on one night of the year to commit any crime that they would like, including murder. In the movie, they say this is used to promote a better America and that with this night of allowed crime, they crime rates over the year go down. This movie also demonstrates how money creates monsters. The poor, are able to get revenge on those who have taken everything from them. Most commit murder which is monstrous and against peoples morals. It’s also amazing to see in the movie how these people could be some of the most genuine, caring people for the ones they know and one may think that they could never hurt anyone, but when given the opportunity they are able to commit such an intense crime.
The rich also become monstrous because of the fact that they have money. In one of the two movies about the purge, the richest people across the country and in government come together with poor people who prove to be “useless to society” and auction them off for which of the rich get to kill them. This part of the film is just disgusting, however I think that it shows a good representation of how monstrous our leaders today can be toward the common people. Throughout history, our country has seen a lot of politics who were greedy and took advantage of their power to hurt the people below themselves. For example, in Illinois 4 of the past 7 governors have ended up going to prison due to their greed and carelessness for the people they are governing.

I think that this movie is really able to exemplify what a human monster is and the different ways that this monster can act and come to be seen in this way.
